Frequently Asked Questions
Many of Metro’s English as a Second Language courses are open to permanent residents of Canada. Some ESL courses are open to temporary foreign workers and/or international students.
Metro accepts cash, cheque, VISA, MasterCard or debit card payments. For online registration Metro accepts Visa, MasterCard and online debit payments from RBC Royal Bank, Scotiabank, Canada Trust and BMO Bank of Montreal.
Yes. Eligible international students are required to pay international fees to take a high school credit course with Metro. If you are an adult (18 years of age or older) visiting Canada on a visa and wish to study English as a Second Language, phone 780.917.8653.
If you are an adult visiting Canada on a Visitors Permit and wish to study English as a Second Language, you may study for up to 6 months and are required to pay international fees. If you have a different permit, please call 780-917-8653 to see if you are eligible to apply.
Many courses meet at the Metro Continuing Education main site, 8205 - 90 Avenue and the Metro Annex site, 8610 - 81 Street. Course room assignments for both locations are posted in the building lobbies on the first day of classes. As well, office staff is available to provide direction assistance.
Students attending courses at Metro Continuing Education are asked to park in the stalls facing north on 90 Avenue and the fenced area on the west side of the building. Additional evening parking is available at Metro Annex at 8610 - 81 Street, just south of the Bonnie Doon swimming pool. View the Metro site map (pdf).
Students who park in other areas are asked to please be aware of the posted signage as some parking stalls facing south on 90 Avenue (against the school) are 24-hour reserved stalls.
Metro Continuing Education is committed to making our classes accessible whenever possible. For questions about accessibility please call or email our office. If we are not able to accommodate your accessibility needs, we will refund your payment.
Metro Continuing Education does not close due to inclement weather and all classes will run as scheduled. Refunds will not be issued for non-attendance.
Requests for refunds must be made at least two business days prior to the start date of the class. A withdrawal fee of $25 will be charged. No refund will be issued after the start date.
International Students: Requests for refunds must be made at least two business days prior to the start date of the class. If you received an acceptance letter from Metro, you will be required to return the original Metro acceptance letter along with the Immigration Refusal Documentation. A withdrawal fee of $25 will be charged. The processing fee and application fee are non-refundable. No refund will be issued after the start date.
