Evening & Weekend High School Courses

FREE TUITION Program fee: $75 non-refundable

Criteria:

• Open to current Edmonton Public School students. If the student is no longer attending a day-time school, last school attended was an Edmonton Public School.
• New Starting September 2026: Students currently enrolled in a High School within EPSB require AP approval to register for a course. Please speak with your AP at your current high school to discuss this. For Semester 1, Quarter 1 and Quarter 2 classes, students without AP approval by 4pm on September 4 will be withdrawn from their courses.
• As Metro Evening/Weekend courses are supplementary to regular daytime EPSB programming, there are restrictions on how many courses a student can take with Metro. These restrictions help us support many students throughout the Division:
  • Students can take one class each semester: one from Q1 or Q2 or S1; then one from Q3 or Q4 or S2. For instance, it is possible to take a S1 and Q3 class, but not a Q1 and Q2 class (same semester).
    • If you withdraw after a class has begun, you may not take another class this semester.
  • Students cannot repeat a course within the school year. For instance, if you take Math 30-1 with Metro in Q2, you cannot access that class again with Metro this school year.
    • If you withdraw after a class has begun, you may not take the same course this school year.

  If you need more courses than what Metro allows, or to discuss your graduation plan, please speak with your primary high school to coordinate access to daytime programming.

• All students are responsible for ensuring they are eligible for the course in which they register. Students who are not eligible because of missing prerequisite or any of the above restrictions will be removed from the course and forfeit the (non-refundable) $75 program fee.

• Course prerequisite is recommended but not required.

Criteria: Eligible to study in Canada

• 5-credit course: $1024 tuition. To pay tuition, you will need to contact Metro by phone or in-person.
• Program fee: $75 non-refundable
• Diploma exam fee: $50 (payable to Alberta Education)

Criteria: Eligible to study in Canada. You will need to provide a valid student permit.

• All students (regardless of age) should not be registered in the same course at multiple schools, during the same enrollment period.
• Metro does NOT offer waiting lists for academic classes. Seats may become available due to student withdrawals. Check our website regularly for the latest class availability.

• Online students will be part of a learning group with an assigned online teacher. During every scheduled class, they will interact with their teacher and classmates in a structured learning environment. The opportunity to build connections can help students feel more supported and comfortable in adapting to online learning.
• This format includes live online teacher instruction as well as directed activities and assignments that students complete independently. Teachers are responsible for organizing students’ schedules and monitoring their progress.

• Quarterly fast track classes are best suited for students who are aware that this will be delivered using a compressed timeline. Each Metro class is 87 hours of instruction. A quarterly fast track course includes 12 hours and 20 minutes of instruction per week, whereas a semestered class includes 6 hours of instruction per week.
• Quarterly fast track courses move twice as fast as semestered courses.
• Students should consider the time and space they have to dedicate to their studies in choosing the timing of course-delivery.

To complete an academic course, students will require internet access and access to a computer (laptop, Chromebook, or desktop) with a working microphone and camera (either built-in or external). Courses will be delivered on the G Suite (Google Classroom) platform. Tablets and cell phones are not recommended as they cannot support the programs students are required to use. The expectation is that student cameras are on during synchronous activities to foster active participation and community building.
