Fee Payment

Course fees must be paid at the time of registration. No participant is allowed to attend class without having paid the full course fee or without proper billing authorization. Registered students are ultimately responsible for payment of fees, regardless of authorization for third-party invoicing. Metro is unable to accept post dated cheques. Cheques returned due to “non-sufficient funds” (NSF) will be subject to a $25 service fee and will result in cancellation of the registration. For all fees paid by cash or cheque, refunds may take up to four weeks to process through Edmonton Public Schools Financial Services.

 

Cancellations

Metro reserves the right to cancel any class where difficulties arise in staffing or scheduling or where a minimum enrolment is not achieved. A full refund will be issued for all canceled classes.

 

Withdrawals & Refund Policy

Transfers and withdrawals may be subject to withdrawal/transfer fees. Refunds may take up to four weeks to process through Edmonton Public Schools Financial Services. All withdrawals must be communicated to Metro staff in writing in order to be processed.

Metro administers withdrawals/transfers and refunds related to class offerings as outlined in the following program areas:

 

High School Credit Courses

If the student submits a withdrawal form before the start of the third class of a course, 100% of the tuition will be refunded. The $60 program fee is non-refundable. If the student submits a withdrawal form before the start of the fifth class of a course, 50% of the tuition will be refunded. The $60 program fee is non-refundable. No refunds will be issued after the start of the fifth class of a course. Non-attendance does not constitute a withdrawal. Refunds may take up to four weeks to process.

Online Learning

Ed2Go Programs: Enrollments for both instructor-moderated and self-guided courses can be dropped and refunded (minus a $25 administrative fee) for up to thirteen (13) calendar days after your course start date, provided you have not submitted a final exam or your course status is not listed as Complete.

UGotClass Programs: UGotClass offers a full money back refund up to the end of the second week (14th day) of class.


 

Students Funded by Foundational Learning Assistance

The following information applies to students in Metro’s English as an Additional Language (EAL) full-time program and Metro’s Academic Upgrading part-time program.

The Government of Alberta’s Foundational Learning Assistance program provides financial support to Albertans to assist them with achieving their educational goals. Metro Continuing Education students who apply to the Foundational Learning Assistance program must meet academic and financial criteria. Seats are on a first come, first serve basis and there is no guarantee that funding will be approved. All funding approvals are granted by the Foundational Learning Assistance program. Students who apply for funding are expected to complete their designated program as a condition of financial support. In a situation where the student does not attend, and cancels their registration in writing before the start date of the program, all tuition will be repaid to Foundational Learning Assistance.

All students are required to submit a written withdrawal or funding cancellation request.

Foundational Learning Assistance is considered taxable income and students will receive a tax slip in February from the Government of Alberta to include in their income tax filing for the previous year. Students who have tax questions are encouraged to contact a tax professional or the Canada Revenue Agency.

Policy Update: Tuition Refunds (Funded by Foundational Learning Assistance)

Please be advised of the following policy regarding tuition refunds for our program when fees are covered by Foundational Learning Assistance. All students are required to submit a written withdrawal or funding cancellation request.

  • Cancellation Before Program Start Date: If a student cancels their registration in writing before the official start date of the program, all tuition fees will be repaid to Foundational Learning Assistance.
  • Withdrawal Within 1-20 Calendar Days: If a student withdraws from the program between 1 and 20 calendar days (inclusive) after the program start date, 50% of the total tuition fees will be refunded to Foundational Learning Assistance.
  • Withdrawal After 21 or More Calendar Days: If a student withdraws from the program after having studied for 21 calendar days or more, no tuition fees will be refunded to Foundational Learning Assistance.

This policy is in place to ensure the responsible management of funding provided to support student learning.


 

International Students

All international students must pay their tuition and material fees at the international student rate. Fees are due at the time of registration.

 

Part-Time High School Credit Courses

If the student submits a withdrawal form before the third class of a course, 100% of the tuition and 100% of the International fee will be refunded. The $60 program fee is non-refundable. If the student submits a withdrawal form before the start of the fifth class of a course, 50% of the tuition and 50% of the international fee will be refunded. The $60 program fee is non-refundable. No refunds will be issued after the start of the fifth class of a course. Non-attendance does not constitute a withdrawal. Refunds may take up to four weeks to process.

 

Full-Time ESL Program

International students should ensure that they have a valid visitor visa or study permit for the entire duration of the ESL program training dates before registering in the course. International student rates include the cost of tuition, materials, and processing/application fees. The processing and application fees are non-refundable. When a student withdraws after the start date of the program, no tuition and material fees will be refunded back to the student. Non-attendance does not constitute a withdrawal. All students are required to submit a written withdrawal or funding cancellation request.
