Online Young Writers’ Camps

Nurture your young writer's talent

At Young Writers’ Camp, students will work with top-notch published authors, learn writing techniques for specific genres, and have the opportunity to ask questions and receive guidance from experienced writers.

In partnership with YouthWrite®, Metro Continuing Education and The Bennett Centre are pleased to offer Young Writers’ Camps to students in grades 4-9. YouthWrite®, a prominent organization in Edmonton’s writing community, has organized and hosted writing camps for kids the past 20 years.

2021 Camps:

March 29, 2021
Grades 4 – 6
Time: 10 – 11 am and 1 – 2 pm

March 30, 2021
Grades 7 – 9
Time: 10 – 11 am and 1 – 2 pm

Location: Online
Camp fee: $49 plus GST
Supplies needed: Paper, pencil and a pen
Deadline to register: March 22, 2021

The 2021 instructor line-up:

Elena Eli Belyea (they/she) is a queer playwright, performer, producer and arts educator from Amiskwaciy-wâskahikan (Edmonton, Treaty 6) whose plays have been produced across North America. Elena was a participant in Nightwood Theatre’s 2016-2017 Write from the Hip Playwriting Unit, a recipient of the Tarragon Theatre’s 2018-2019 RBC Emerging Playwright Award, and a graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada’s Playwriting program. Elena’s also half of queer sketch comedy duo “Gender? I Hardly Know Them” (on Tiktok and Instagram at @genderihardlyknowthem). Find out more at elenabelyea.com + tinybearjaws.com.

Marty Chan writes books for kids, plays for adults, and tweets for fun. He’s best known for his Marty Chan Mystery series. He was a regular contributor to CBC Radio and the Edmonton Journal with his humour pieces. His latest young adult novel, Haunted Hospital, was inspired by the Charles Camsell Hospital.
